Gayle Mabery

I was born in Cottonwood, Arizona and raised in Clarkdale.  My parents were both teachers in the Verde Valley, and my older brother and I both attended elementary and junior high school in Clarkdale and high school at Mingus Union High School.

After graduating from Mingus Union High School, I attended Northern Arizona University, where I earned my B.S. in Business Administration in 1992.  It was through the NAU Business College that I had the opportunity to complete an internship with the Town of Clarkdale during my second year of college.  The internship provided me with my first exposure to municipal government, and, finding the experience immensely rewarding,  I returned to work for the Town permanently in May, 1992.

In March, 1998, I was appointed to the Town Manager’s position.

I’ve told many of my colleagues that serving as the Town Manager in my hometown can have a unique set of rewards and challenges.  By far the most enjoyable part of my job is interacting one-on-one with the citizens of our Town.  As the community and the demands on my position grow, I always try to reflect on those interactions and their importance.  I also take great pride in the quality staff that serves the citizens of Clarkdale.  Individually, and as a group, they are committed to Clarkdale. Ensuring that they have the tools to meet the needs of our growing community is a constant challenge.

I am a full member of the International City/County Management Association and a member of the Arizona City/County Management Association, having served as President in 2007. Through those associations, I am fortunate to have developed a network of colleagues and information that have proven invaluable in my position as Town Manager. In June, 2006, I completed Harvard University's Executive Education Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. I am also a graduate of the University of Arizona’s Southwest Leadership Program, and am one of the founders of Verde Valley Leadership. I enjoy representing the Town of Clarkdale in a variety of settings in our region and at the State level.
